Job Title: Production Shift Leader

Location: Coventry

Hourly Rate: £17.87 - £19.65phr

Status: Temporary to permanent

Purpose: A Shift Leader is responsible for the supervision of the appropriate shift. The Shift Leader must ensure that all standards and targets are met and all production lines are running efficiently. The Shift Leader is able to implement recovery plans as required to ensure any issues are resolved without having detrimental impacts on overall business performance.

Scope: Holding a clear management position within the structure, the Shift Leader must be able to demonstrate they are very health & safety aware and are able to work safely and communicate effectively to all levels within the organisation, up to and including Directors. Reporting directly to the Production Manager/Supervisor, the Shift Leader is required to take a lead role in communicating key facts and KPI’s directly from the production lines to the wider business, promoting effective team work across all company departments.

Opportunity: The role is born out of continued growth and expansion for a family run business seeking to recruit outstanding, talented and gifted individuals. The position offers an immediate start for the successful candidate – training on days 0600-1800 x 4 days per week to then take a leading role on a new shift to commence 9th May 2021 – Friday, Saturday & Monday 0600-1800 – 10% premium paid!

Responsibilities:

  • Promote and ensure safe working practices by everyone on the shift at all times
  • To ensure a very high standard of housekeeping is set and maintained
  • Ensure that all internal quality standards and processes are being followed
  • Manage and lead the production Team Leaders/Production Operatives on shift, ensuring adequate staffing levels, managing holiday allowances, recruitment, training, development, appraisal, attendance including return to works, disciplinary issues and daily supervision to maximise efficient productivity
  • Ensure all employees work within Health and Safety standards as set by the organisation and audited, including PPE checks and accident investigation where required
  • Implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimise results and improve quality of delivery by using root cause analysis tools such as 5Y’s
  • Ensure all Team Leader and Operator daily and weekly process checklists are completed and signed off and that all Critical Checks required for each line during the Shift are completed and if the check fails manage and coordinate appropriate action
  • Full responsibility for the shifts 5S standards including shadow boards and workplace tidiness, orderliness and organisation
  • Process champion for the shift
  • Conduct weekly shift briefs
  • Lead Site induction for Team Leaders/Production Operatives
  • Completion of data updates and input of production statistics and ensure the accuracy of all shift reports
  • Annual health surveillance coordination
  • Providing shift cover to Production Team Leaders where appropriate e.g. absence/holiday
  • All other duties as assigned

Person Specification:

  • Minimum 5 years’ hands on experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience within a line management capacity  
  • Experience of a high volume, fast paced environment
  • Ability to lead and make decisions
  • Ability to support and develop a team to achieve results
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to persuade and influence at all levels
  • Ability to analyse and report data effectively
  • Ability to understand and deliver strategies
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Proven ability of meeting and exceeding internal and external stakeholder requirements
  • Ability to adapt and respond to change
  • Able to demonstrate ability to achieve objectives and exceed expectations
