A safe workplace is everyone’s responsibility. We are seeking a proactive, hands-on Health & Safety Officer to support a manufacturing operation to help strengthen their safety culture and help ensure their people go home safe every day.

Reporting to the Site Manager, you will play a key role in promoting high standards of health, safety and environmental performance across the site. Working closely with production, engineering, maintenance, warehouse teams and employees at all levels, you will turn safety requirements into practical solutions that make a real difference.

If you enjoy being visible on the shop floor, engaging with people and driving continuous improvement, this is an opportunity to make a positive impact.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor compliance with relevant UK legislation, company policies and procedures, identifying risks and recommending improvements.
  • Develop, review and maintain risk assessments, safe working procedures and practical control measures.
  • Work with Production and Engineering to promote safe machinery operation, effective guarding, equipment safety, isolation procedures and safe workplace transport.
  • Investigate accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, identify root causes and ensure corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
  • Support inductions, toolbox talks, safety briefings and employee consultation, encouraging a positive, proactive safety culture.
  • Help ensure contractors work safely through appropriate risk assessments, method statements, inductions and monitoring.
  • Support fire risk assessments, emergency procedures, evacuation drills and ongoing site readiness.
  • Support waste management, pollution prevention, environmental compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Carry out workplace inspections, maintain accurate records, monitor actions and report key issues and trends to management.

The ideal candidate profile:

  • A relevant health and safety qualification, such as the NEBOSH National General Certificate, or equivalent experience and knowledge.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, ideally involving machinery, production equipment and maintenance activities.
  • A sound understanding of UK health and safety legislation, risk assessment and incident investigation.
  • Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits and supporting corrective actions.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to engage with employees, supervisors and senior management.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement.

What you can expect

  • A key role in maintaining and improving safety standards across their manufacturing site.
  • The opportunity to work closely with management and operational teams to influence positive change.
  • A varied, hands-on position where your ideas and professional judgement can make a difference.
  • The opportunity to contribute to a workplace culture built around safety, responsibility and continuous improvement.
